In July 2024, the Centre for Peace and Democracy (CPD), through its Nabadoon Project, supported fishing associations in Warshiekh District and El-Maan Village with essential fishing inputs and a six-day capacity-building program focused on the maintenance and use of the equipment.
This initiative benefited eight fishing associations, comprising a total of 320 members. CPD also facilitated the redistribution of the equipment among the associations.

During the distribution event, several community leaders expressed their gratitude for the timely support. Mr Hassan Ali Yussuf, a veteran fisherman with over a decade of experience, remarked, “I have been in the fishing business for ten years and have never received such valuable equipment. This support is truly remarkable and will significantly improve our operations.”
Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed, From Waryeel Association noted, “These fishing inputs come at a crucial time for us. They are a means to enhance our livelihoods and strengthen bonds within our community.”
The event, attended by Warshiekh District Commissioner Mr. Mohamed Hassan Matan, underscored the transformative impact of targeted support in fostering social cohesion and community resilience.
Further empowering the local fishing community, CPD organised a six-day capacity-building workshop in Warshiekh Town. The training, attended by 20 participants (18 men and 2 women), covered key areas such as fish handling hygiene, drying techniques, marketing, and financial management. Participants included fishermen, women retailers, off-loaders, cleaners, and association managers.
This initiative, implemented under the Nabadoon Project and funded by USAID, marks a significant step toward enhancing the livelihoods of fishing communities in Warshiekh and El-Maan. By providing both tools and knowledge, CPD continues to foster resilience and promote sustainable development in the region.
