Agriculture
Our Approach
Agriculture supports nearly 70% of Somalia's population and contributes 60–65% of GDP. CPD bridges the gap between current productivity and untapped potential through climate resilience, market-driven value chains, and institutional strengthening.
How We Work
- Climate-Smart Farming: Roll out drought-tolerant seeds and solar-powered irrigation across the Shabelle and Juba basins targeting 50% yield increase.
- Post-Harvest & Value Chains: Reduce 30–40% losses through cold-storage hubs and digital marketplaces connecting farmers directly to buyers.
- Institutional Support: Strengthen cooperatives, deliver extension services, and advise government on seed certification and rural finance.
Where We Work
- Somalia: Afgoi, Jowhar, Beletweyn, Luuq, Dollow, Baidoa, Adado, Kismayu, Marka, Barawe, and Hudur districts—reaching smallholder farmers, women, and youth in both riverine and peri-urban zones.
Our Goal
Transform agriculture from subsistence to prosperity achieving food security, reducing the $460M annual food import bill, and creating sustainable livelihoods.
