Hargeisa, Somaliland | 1 August 2026 — The Centre for Peace and Democracy (CPD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Development of the Republic of Somaliland and UNICEF, has officially launched the Inline Chlorination (ILC) Project, an initiative aimed at improving access to safe, clean and reliable water for communities across Somaliland.

The project will support the installation of modern Inline Chlorination systems at 75 water points across different regions and districts of Somaliland. The systems are designed to continuously introduce an appropriate amount of chlorine into water supplies, helping to eliminate harmful microorganisms and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases.

The launch brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Water Development, UNICEF, CPD, SETAC, and other key stakeholders. Their participation underscored the importance of strong partnerships and coordinated efforts in strengthening water safety and expanding access to essential WASH services.

Through the ILC Project, communities will benefit from improved water treatment at source, contributing to safer water supplies and better protection against waterborne illnesses. The initiative is particularly important in strengthening the resilience and well-being of communities that depend on local water points for their daily needs.
Speaking at the launch, representatives from the participating institutions highlighted the importance of sustainable and practical water-treatment solutions, as well as continued collaboration among government institutions, development partners and implementing organisations.

CPD is proud to contribute to this important initiative and remains committed to supporting interventions that improve community well-being, strengthen resilience and expand access to essential services.

CPD extends its appreciation to the Ministry of Water Development and UNICEF for their leadership and support, as well as to SETAC and all partners contributing to the successful implementation of the project.

The launch marks an important step towards strengthening water safety and ensuring that more communities across Somaliland have access to safer and more reliable water supplies.

Clean water is health. Clean water is life.
