On April, 28,2025, The Centre for Peace and Democracy (CPD) has concluded a transformative three-day introductory and reconciliation meeting between the administrations of Dhabad and Galinsor at Galkacyo South, Mudug Region, Galmudug State of Somalia.
This landmark event set the stage for an upcoming community outreach initiative aimed at fostering reconciliation, unity, and sustainable peacebuilding.
Discussions during the meeting focused on actionable strategies to mobilize communities for outreach sessions, which form part of a broader initiative to promote dialogue and engagement. The longstanding clan conflict over land ownership between Dhabad and Galinsor has stifled unity and development in the region. Through its reconciliation efforts, CPD seeks to bridge these divides by fostering collaboration and mutual understanding among leaders of both administrations.
Both administrations showcased their commitment to peace by formulating a joint peace awareness plan as a key outcome of the discussions. Representatives from the two communities expressed optimism about the initiative’s potential impact.
Adan Abdinoor Galaal, representing Dhabad, stated:
“We are grateful to the Galmudug Ministry of Interior and CPD for organizing this important meeting. This is a commendable step toward peace and reconciliation between Dhabad and Galinsor, and we urge them to intensify these efforts.”
Similarly, Xirsi Muse Mohamed from Galinsor added:
“We deeply appreciate this initiative and the lessons we’ve gained from it. This meeting has inspired us to take immediate action as peace ambassadors in our region.”
Ahmed Osman Adan, the Galmudug Deputy Minister of Interior, officiated the event and called upon the two communities to embrace peaceful coexistence and harmony. He emphasized the crucial role of elders in expediting reconciliation efforts.
The meeting garnered robust institutional support, with key government officials, including Ahmed Osman Adan and representatives from regional and district administrations, in attendance. The reconciliation initiative is funded by the Somalia Stability Fund (SSF) and jointly implemented by CPD and PSA under a CARE International Somalia-led consortium.
This collaborative effort marks a significant stride toward addressing the root causes of conflict and paving the way for lasting peace in the region.
