Baxdo, Adado District, Somalia – Under the BRCiS III Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience Building in Somalia (HARBS) project, the Centre for Peace and Development (CPD) has officially handed over the Baxdo Water Project to the local administration in Baxdo Town, Adado District, Galmudug State of Somalia.

The climate-resilient multi-use water system, featuring a newly drilled borehole, is set to provide clean, safe drinking water to over 4,200 residents.

The project encompasses the supply of a JP30 generator, the construction of a generator and service room, and the installation of a 25-cubic-meter elevated water tank.

In addition, the initiative has supported the planting of 175 trees with a drip irrigation system, protected by wire mesh fencing.

These efforts aim to combat sand dune encroachment, soil erosion, and agricultural crop shortages, thereby promoting environmental regeneration and enhancing community resilience to climate shocks.

During the handover ceremony, Mr. Ahmed Salat Shiekh Abdullahi, the Deputy District Commissioner for Baxdo Town, commended CPD for their invaluable contribution.

“We are extremely grateful for this lifeline project,” he stated.

“This project addresses the most urgent community needs by providing water and reducing sand dune encroachment, which has had a significant impact on our town.” added Baxdo Deputy District Commissioner

The ecosystem restoration efforts have already sparked community interest in developing smallholder farms in the region.

The BRCiS III HARBS project aims to strengthen the capacities and resilience of affected communities against future disasters, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.

The project was implemented by Centre for Peace and Democracy (CPD) in partnership with International Rescue Committee (IRC) and funded by Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
